Nãna Guimarães restores Burle Marx's stunning garden at CASACOR MG

With the aim of paying homage to the creator of the Jardim do Palácio das Mangabeiras, the landscaper designed an environment with only bromeliads

Nãna Guimarães - Restoration of the Burle Marx Garden. Since the 2019 edition of CASACOR Minas, the landscaper has faced a challenge: restoring the gardens on the grounds of the Palácio das Mangabeiras. Designed by Roberto Burle Marx, they reflect the essence of the master, who promoted the appreciation of Brazilian flora to be admired and used with plants that were rarely found in gardens and squares in the country. The highlight of the work is the organization of the species, which allows us to see the beauty of each one with precision and respect.

CASACOR Minas Gerais 2021 invited the green surroundings of the Palácio das Mangabeiras to be a major highlight of this year's show! To this end, landscaper Nãna Guimarães was invited to restore the palace garden, which was originally designed by Roberto Burle Marx in the 1960s. 1950. The space brings the essence of the master, who provided the appreciation of Brazilian flora to be admired and used with plants that were difficult to find in gardens and squares in the country.

According to the landscaper, the project's biggest challenge was precisely this: finding the native Brazilian species used in Marx's original sketch.

With the aim of paying homage to the creator of the Jardim do Palácio das Mangabeiras, the landscaper designed an environment with only bromeliads – Burle Marx's favorite species . “Bromeliads adapt well to full sun, require little watering and have the power to form groups of impressive colors and textures , adding even more value to the garden,” he says.

For Nãna, the landscaping of the Palácio das Mangabeiras is not just a beautiful space or a source of study on the work of Burle Marx, it is also an extension of modernist architecture full of history and meaning. “Restoring it is a great pleasure and a great responsibility where I put into practice all my knowledge and sensitivity to carry out beautiful work and maintain the essence of the original project ”, he reveals.
