Writing a book, having a child, planting a tree . For many, these are great accomplishments that should be done at least once in a lifetime! And to help you when it comes to planting a tree, architect and landscaper Cezar Scarpato , in charge from the Scarpato Arquitetura Paisagística office, gathered several tips and necessary care for the moment of planting.
“Beyond the poetics behind the idea that we should all plant a tree, there is a rational and fundamental question of our own existence – trees are responsible for the formation and maintenance of forests and, consequently, for the benefits and conditions for the life of a series of of other species, including ours”, highlights the landscaper.

In addition to their importance, trees contribute to a cozy look in cities and homes and can be planted by anyone.
“The important thing is to take some care, especially when it comes to the right species for the planting site,” says the landscaper. This is because some trees can reach very large proportions , both in their crowns and in their roots, leaves and fruits.

“When poorly planned, a planting can generate an excess of fragile branches, leaves and fruits that damage roofs and cars , for example, or make sidewalks slippery. It is necessary to choose the correct location and avoid possible damage to neighbors and urban infrastructure,” alert.

“Choosing small trees, with roots that are not too aggressive and with a crown that is more slender than wide, avoiding blocking the space completely or hitting cars, is the best option. It is best to avoid trees with very large or slimy fruits, which can also cause the person to slip on the sidewalk,” says Cezar Scarpato.

Home gardens tend to be more open areas, and the main concern is the proportion of the space .
“The main benefit of bringing a tree is the shade , which can also benefit a room in the house or a facade that receives direct sunlight, making everything more comfortable. Another benefit is in relation to fruits, when a fruit tree is chosen. And, for end, of course, the visual benefit ,” says the landscaper.

For shading, Scarpato recommends planting species with a leafier canopy such as Ingá, Aroeira, Mango, Flamboyant, Chapéu-de-sol, Oiti and Sombreiro.
Now, for those looking for a super colorful tree, the Ipê, the Quaresmeira, Resedá, Pau-formiga, Chuva-de-ouro, Manacá-da-serra, Jasmine-manga, Magnolias and the Mini-flamboyant are the best bet.

To help with planting, landscaper Cezar Scarpato says that the main care should be with the tree's root ball , which cannot be broken or damaged. Also pay attention to the stem , which should not be covered with soil - this is because the tree breathes through the trunk. and smothering it could make it more susceptible to disease and pests.
“The planting bed, which is the hole to receive the tree, must be wide and at least twice as large as the root ball , to allow for the addition of fertilized mixed soil, together with the soil from the site itself, turned over and aerated, facilitating the initial growth of the roots”, he teaches.

In places with strong winds, a vertical stake should be added to support the stem.
Finally, Scarpato recommends that planting should preferably be done in mid-season , especially in spring. “This ensures natural irrigation , with the rainy season, and milder temperatures, for less evaporation,” he explains.
The least interesting time is late autumn or early winter , when weather conditions are not so favorable in most places, and plant metabolism and growth stagnates or slows down.
