A
Aloe vera, also known as
babosa, is one of the most popular plants for those seeking a greener, healthier, and functional home. With its thick and pointed leaves, it captivates both for its exotic aesthetic and for its
medicinal and cosmetic properties. Versatile and resilient, Aloe vera is an excellent choice for those who want to start a garden at home, even in small spaces.

A
babosa is a succulent plant native to arid regions, which is why it is accustomed to warm climates and well-drained soils. This profile makes it an excellent option for pots, planters, and beds with plenty of sun exposure.
Lighting and ideal location
Choose a place that receives at least
4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight a day. Balconies,
backyards, and well-lit windows are great spots. The plant can even adapt to internal projects, as long as it receives enough sunlight.
Soil and watering
The ideal substrate for Aloe vera should be light and sandy, the same as that recommended for cacti and succulents. Drainage is essential to
prevent root rot. When watering, less is more: only water when the soil is completely dry – usually, once a week is enough.
Planting and maintenance
A
babosa can be cultivated from cuttings, which sprout spontaneously at the base of the mother plant. Replanting can be done when these cuttings are at least 10 cm. The pruning consists only of removing very old or damaged leaves.

Beyond its ornamental function, Aloe vera is famous for its therapeutic and cosmetic uses. The transparent gel found inside the leaves has healing, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing properties, allowing for various home applications.
Hydration for skin and hair
Simply cut a leaf in half and scoop out the gel with a spoon. It can be applied directly to the skin as a hydrating face mask, or on the scalp to relieve itching and strengthen the hair.
Healing and minor burns
Due to its soothing action, the babosa can be applied to the skin in cases of sunburn, irritations, or small wounds. Always wash the area well before application and use only the inner part of the leaf.
Natural recipes and care
Although Aloe vera is safe for external use, oral consumption of the gel requires attention and moderation, as some parts of the plant contain aloin – a
laxative substance that can cause side effects. If you wish to make juices or ingest capsules with aloe extract, it is recommended to seek medical advice.
A functional green touch in decoration

In addition to its therapeutic benefits, Aloe vera is a sculptural plant that fits well with different decoration styles. In pots of
ceramic, burnt cement, or
terracotta, it brings a contemporary and natural air to balconies, well-lit kitchens, and bathrooms. And because it is resistant, it requires little care, making it perfect for those with a busy routine.
