In search of a refuge in their hometown, to rest with their family and receive friends, a couple with two teenage daughters acquired a plot of land in a gated community in the city of
Bom Sucesso (MG) to build a weekend home with a lot of emotional value and plenty of greenery all around.
The landscaping project was developed by landscape architect
Flávia D'Urso – from the
CASACOR Minas Gerais cast –, in parallel with the architecture and interior design project by architect
Mateus Monteiro . And the result is impressive:
there are 33 species of varied plants in 790 m² .
Originally, the land had only a few trees, which were preserved. “The clients wanted greenery in every part of the house. The architectural design, developed in parallel with the landscaping, allowed for framed views in each room. Based on this request, we understood that the project deserved
large, lush gardens that would be distributed in harmony with the architecture, while also providing the necessary privacy ,” says Flávia.
The clients’ emotional connection with the construction of the house was evident in every detail, such as the choice of
soapstone cladding for the façade – the material is a symbol of Minas Gerais’ cultural heritage. “Knowing this, we created a garden with
Washington palm trees , which add grandeur through their robust trunks and voluminous foliage, framing the monolithic soapstone façade,” describes the landscaper.
The palm trees share the spotlight with the volume and variety of textures of
the imbés undulatos, guaimbês, xanadus and marantas-charuto , forming a tropical and contemporary garden. Alongside them,
pau-mulatos and solitary palm trees are repeated along the façade, bringing cadence to the composition and marking the vertical axes of the architectural design.
At the back of the house, where the leisure area is located, the uneven terrain was one of the characteristics that most affected the landscaper's work. “The topography was studied in depth to create access points and outdoor areas that were well distributed and created pleasant spaces surrounded by greenery,” reveals Flávia.
The landscaper specified, in the project, the creation of planters that frame the stairs – filled with
purple irises, cigar marantas, imbés undulatos, solitary palms, phoenix palms, agapanthus and liriope . “The external staircase, all covered in grass, emerges from the land in an almost natural way, prolonging contact with nature and running through the house with great ease”, she describes.
On the side of the pool, on a slope below the deck, is the outdoor living area with
a fire pit . “The
green Texas grass bed , with its delicate feathers, brings a lot of lightness to the leisure space, complemented by the
brown-necked palm trees , which create a backdrop with their canopies facing the pool. In this same area, the
olive trees , located in planters, fit into the stairs and their trunks become sculptural elements”, he explains.
To keep the gardens lush, the entire project features an automated, underground drip irrigation system. Among the 33 different plant species, one stands out: “since this is a client who is passionate about Minas Gerais, the
jabuticaba tree was a special request, as it is a tree with great sentimental value not only for the people of Minas Gerais, but also for those who spent their childhood playing in the backyards of the countryside,” he concludes.
