When the couple built their dream home in the south of Minas Gerais, the intention was to live a slower pace of life and be closer to their family. So, together with the architectural project signed by the
João de Barro Arquitetura studio , the
1547 m² outdoor area was landscaped by
Flávia D'Urso – from the
CASACOR Minas Gerais cast. “The residents value quality of life and well-being very much, transforming their home into a space of great comfort and warmth.
Contact with nature is extremely important to both of them. Their
home office spaces face the gardens, providing a reminder that greenery is present in their routines,” says Flavia D'Urso.
Originally, the land was clear, without trees and with a very flat topography. As its shape is irregular, there are views of the house not only from the main façade, but also from the side, in an organic shape. "This characteristic made it possible to design a
landscaping with a lot of movement, with the feeling of a
house completely surrounded by greenery ", explains the landscaper.
The landscaping concept was developed based on the architecture of the house – contemporary, with straight axes and uniformity of materials, such as wood, iron, glass, ceramic blocks and natural stones. “This more rigid geometry in the lines of the architectural design contrasts with the greenery and a more fluid landscaping.
We sought to convey lightness through higher canopies and flowerbeds with a lot of volume and variety of species, mixing colors and textures ”, describes Flávia.
Among the main demands, the clients requested a striking façade, which would highlight the main entrance and convey the idea of grandeur using taller elements, such as many trees and large clumps. “The
bismarckia palm tree stands out with its large silvery leaves and sculptural presence, which marks the boundary of the land and composes the view of both the main front and the side. The
zâmia flowerbeds mark the entrance to the residence and, through their volume, provide a view of a growing mass of greenery, which encompasses the house”, he says.
The landscaper also considered another request from the residents:
the inclusion of fruit species . “We have
fig trees, Sicilian lemons, Tahiti limes, tangerines, oranges, acerola, blackberries, avocados and jabuticaba .
Date palms were also requested by the residents. The residents fell in love with the species and were very keen to have it in their garden,” reveals the landscaper.
In total, 47 plant species were used. The landscaping is presented in a contemporary tropical style, providing privacy and playing with the peculiarities of each species chosen to compose the garden. “The highlight of the project is precisely the wide variety of species used, in different shades of green, textures, heights and volumes. These characteristics, in contrast with such striking architecture, give the project a lot of identity”, concludes the professional.
