Hundreds of wooden structures are used to form the
Timber Bridge at Gulou Waterfront, the latest project by Chinese architecture firm
LUO Studio . The 25-meter-long bridge is located in Gulou, a water village in Jiangmen, China. .
With the area now being rebranded as an eco-tourism resort, Gulou Waterfront, the new pedestrian bridge was created with the aim of
making the area accessible to pedestrians without causing disruption to fishing boats.
It was essential that the bridge have
enough space for the boats , and so the arch shape of the bridge was given. Apart from this, very few of its components are curved: the structure is
almost entirely made of small pieces of pine . The result is a structure with a complex structure, which not only provides a passage over the water, but also provides shelter for those crossing.
On either side of the wooden bridge, the entrance is a wide
staircase with open steps . A smaller staircase is placed in the center of each, leading to observation platforms embedded in the bridge structure. "By passing through the platforms to reach the center of the bridge, visitors can fully experience
the light and shadows from the top , feeling calm and open-minded," the studio added.
