Investing in a residential
green roof is a smart idea, especially in urban centers where temperatures are high and pollution is abundant. But is it possible
to build a green roof in the middle of a natural area? The architecture firm KRADZ shows that yes, it is possible.

Designed in Iceland, the holiday home belongs to a couple of musicians. It was carefully built under a hill covered in forest, where the
green roof blends in with the
natural landscape . The house features concrete structural elements and three staggered plans that follow the movement of the surrounding area.
How was the green roof created in the project?
The green roof design featured a combination of
local grass and moss . One of KRADZ’s solutions was to give it a dual purpose: a sustainable purpose and also a space with a pleasant view. This way, residents are able to sit and enjoy the pleasant view from above the structure.

The blackened
wood siding was handpicked to contrast with the green roof and surrounding trees.
In addition to the green roof, other elements were incorporated to give residents a wider view of the outside. This is reflected in the sliding glass doors and windows.

Raw wood was a great choice, and it's a material that brings warmth and freshness to the space. Doing away with walls was a reality: the open kitchen is
integrated into the living and dining room - in the space, a fireplace brings the charm that every country house needs.

Natural light is the star of the show. The
large glass windows , especially one in the center of the dining and living room, allow the sun to enter without the intervention of nature covering it or creating shade. Discover this and other sustainable practices on CASACOR's Instagram:
