The most important art and design fair in Latin America,
SP–Arte, opens this Saturday, the 18th, its
first permanent space dedicated to holding exhibitions and events linked to the visual arts in São Paulo: Casa SP–Arte. Located in Vila Modernista, designed by
Flávio de Carvalho (1899-1973),
Casa SP–Arte will occupy the only property – among the 17 that make up the village – entirely restored to its original version.
(Casa SP- Arte / CASACOR)
"After almost
20 years of work successfully organizing several art fairs, we wanted to take a step further. Opening a permanent space allows us to give wings to our own projects (of which there are many!) and those of partner galleries", says
Fernanda Feitosa , director of SP–Arte.
Casa SP–Arte will be inaugurated with the exhibition Hélio Oiticica: labyrinth-world, organized by
Gomide&Co and
Luisa Duarte , artistic director of the gallery. The exhibition brings together works from different phases of
Oiticica 's production (1937-1980), including his constructive investigations into the two-dimensional plane and experimental proposals that discuss art and life and art and pop culture. The exhibition includes works produced from 1955 onwards, including works by Grupo Frente, and productions from the 1970s.
Some of the artist's works even highlight the house's modernist architecture. This is the case of
Spatial relief (red) , 1959-1960. Also worthy of note is the first
Penetrável (PN1) , which will occupy the center of the gallery. Built by the artist in 1961, the installation is a tribute to art critic Mário Pedrosa (1900-1981).
In PN1, we can see the incorporation of the
body in movement within a labyrinthine composition – the yellow develops into a polymorphic structure of plates that follow one another in space and time, capturing this idea. It was this work that served as inspiration for the title of the exhibition:
labyrinth-world. Service- SP House–Arte Hélio Oiticica Exhibition: labyrinth-world
