Creating a decoration exhibition from scratch is not easy. There are many details that need to be considered and thought out, even before defining the venue for each edition. And few know these challenges as well as the architect from Rio de Janeiro, Mario Costa Santos , responsible for the CASACOR Rio has been in operation for 15 years and CASACOR Pernambuco for ten years. He is the one who defines, in partnership with the directors of each exhibition, the story that the edition will tell, the visiting routes, the type of environment, the installation locations of residential and commercial spaces and also delivers a ready-made property to the cast, with all the necessary infrastructure, so that architects, interior designers and landscapers can create as they wish. "On the first visit to the site, it is necessary to assess whether the space is adequate. As soon as I arrive, I start to imagine the flows , whether the doorways are generous enough for people to come and go at the same time, I look at issues such as ventilation, lighting", says Mario.

The challenges are even greater when the house is listed as a Historical Heritage site , as is the case with this year's Rio de Janeiro headquarters – Residência Brando Barbosa, which is listed by INEPAC and hosted last year's show – and many other houses that hosted Rio de Janeiro editions and Pernambuco adapted by him. "In these cases, we can't do a lot of work. So, we send more specific instructions to the architects on how to maintain the existing architectural elements, so that the house has a leading role and can tell a story that is also the story of the city, of our architecture", reveals Mario.
This was exactly the premise behind the implementation of CASACOR Rio last year: absolute respect for the history of the house and its architecture. This year, the challenge was different . To create a second exhibition in the same location – something unprecedented in Rio – it was necessary also imagine a new story . From there, the idea arose to transform the house into a cultural institute , exactly as its former owners, the couple Jorge and Odaléa Brando Barbosa, dreamed of. " This year the whole house is for use and coexistence . The living rooms are not for families, they are for common use. And the CASACOR coffee went to the kitchen, because after all there is no more welcoming place for a coffee. It is a house for everyone ." the city to use, to enjoy and live . And the living part is outside, in the gardens, where we will have houses and Villa CASACOR with several architectural elements and different styles of housing", says the architect, giving a super spoiler of the next edition .
