Modern, cozy, sustainable and full of unique works of art: these are some of the characteristics that fill Pina Contemporânea , the new building of the Pinacoteca de São Paulo . With a project signed by Arquitetos Associados , the new building consecrates the Brazilian art museum as the second largest in Latin America — totaling an area of 22,041 m². Now, through its new exhibitions , full of renowned names and in fully accessible environments, Pina Contemporânea invites visitors to be dazzled by the quality art that exists in Brazil. CASACOR has already been to Pinacoteca Contemporânea and, below, we tell you what we saw that was surprising at this opening! Sustainable architecture
The space designed by Arquitetos Associados – an office based in Belo Horizonte with a broad repertoire in creating galleries, having designed pavilions at Inhotim and the Venice Architecture Biennale – offers a welcoming , convivial and sustainable approach. The project features a large wooden roof over the central square, which exploits the filtered light in an impressive way. Made from glued laminated timber , the renewable source material has a certified origin and offers high carbon offsetting . Furthermore, Pina Contemporânea has LEED Silver environmental certification, which recognizes the efficiency of the construction method, the use of sustainable materials , the use of solar energy and the collection of rainwater, among other aspects. Unprecedented exhibitions
(Zanone Fraissat / CASACOR)
Haegue Yang , the first South Korean to exhibit at the Pinacoteca, proposes an installation of sculptures made with industrial blinds that hang from the ceiling, like large mobiles, combined with other mobile sculptures situated on the floor. The Chão da Praça exhibition opens the building's new temporary exhibition room and is made up of sculptures, paintings and large-scale installations belonging to the Pinacoteca's collection . In addition, the work “ Tríade Trindade ”, by Brazilian artist Tunga , is composed of a five-meter , four-ton bell and occupies the center of the square of the new building, which is open to the public. Educational and social areas
Not only exhibitions fill Pina Contemporânea! Historic pavilions have been restored and updated to house the library , documentation center , educational workshops , shop, restaurant and an administrative area . All this so that coexistence takes center stage in this new post-pandemic space. The educational space, for example, has a large, glass-enclosed studio that will offer a range of activities for different audiences. Integration with Praça da Luz
The intention of the Pina Contemporânea project was to create an environment with all the fundamental requirements for a 21st century museum , but which was also accessible , friendly and integrated with Parque da Luz and the other Pinacoteca building. Therefore, the space is open to the greenery of Praça da Luz , offering integration with nature and a stunning view of the original building designed by Ramos de Azevedo . Contemporary Pina Service
