Until January 15, Casa Bradesco opens its program in Cidade Matarazzo with the exhibition "Inflamação" (Inflammation), by Anish Kapoor . A center of creativity that democratizes and enhances the creation and appreciation of the arts, Casa Bradesco invites the public to explore "Blinded by Eyes, Butchered by Birth", a new work created exclusively for the space, along with 18 other sculptures representing different moments in the career of the acclaimed artist – many of them exhibited for the first time in Brazil. With four thousand square meters of exhibition space and curated by Marcello Dantas, the exhibition offers an in-depth look at Kapoor's creations.

The exhibition

Considered one of the most important names in contemporary art, Anish Kapoor is known worldwide for exploring colors, textures, materiality, space and the relationship between the artistic object and the viewer in his works. “Anish Kapoor explores the non-verbal nature of color with a pre-verbal symbolism. Without the need for words or even articulated thought, it functions as a direct and visceral route to metaphor – blood, the essential material,” explains the curator. Anish Kapoor Casa Bradesco For the exhibition “Inflammation,” Kapoor helped define several characteristics of the exhibition space, challenging the architecture of the place to expand the possibilities of meaning. This is the case of the central work, “ Blinded by Eyes, Butchered by Birth ,” a large inflatable that stretches the building from all its corners. Designed especially for the exhibition in Brazil, the work evokes a relationship with inflammation concentrated in a gigantic organ , which pulsates and dominates the space. The condition it carries is the essential fragility of existence: what keeps the work alive is a constant pulse, it is alive and dominant. The exhibition also features the artist's most recent works, the non-objects (from 2018 and 2019), assembled for the first time in Brazil, are made with Vantablack nanotechnology. The material holds the seal of the darkest substance ever produced by humans , absorbing up to 99.96% of visible light. Since 2016, Kapoor has worked with this material to explore themes such as darkness, interiority and emptiness.
The exhibition will be open until January 15 , from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 10 pm. On Tuesdays, the public will be able to access the space free of charge. Tickets are available for purchase on the MATA APP app and at the physical box office, located at Alameda Rio Claro, 190, Bela Vista, within Cidade Matarazzo, 100 meters from Avenida Paulista.
