New Apple Store Pays Tribute to Roman Architecture and History

Palazzo Marignoli , one of the historic landmarks of the Italian capital, now has a new Apple store inside, which has a very particular characteristic: its architecture references the history of Rome . We call the store "new" because the design has been completely revamped. The space has undergone renovations and was designed by Foster and Partners . Whether it's the restored ceilings , the grand marble staircase or the jasmine-lined terrace , there's no denying that the architects have done a great job. They thought of everything to make the environment more elegant.

The style adopted is contemporary and quite elegant – which is already characteristic of Apple Stores around the world. What differentiated the project from others was the composition that tells the story of the palace, former residence of Marquis Filippo Marignoli and home of Caffè Aragno . The project was signed by the studio Foster and Partners and is, in reality, an important valorization and restoration of works that remained forgotten over time. The specialists invested in graffiti panels created by the Afro painter Basaldella in 1950, and two large paintings from the early 1900s to compose and give life to the ceiling, Fabio Cipolla's Alba and Ettore Ballerini's Twilight . The store was designed before the pandemic and opened this year following all safety procedures. The idea is for it to be not just a commercial hub, but a free space that brings together young people to discuss topics such as art, design and photography .
