The designer conceived the pieces based on the work of artist Isamu Noguchi

The work of Japanese landscaper and artist Isamu Noguchi was the inspiration for Nendo's Light Fragment table lamp collection. During a visit to the city of Gifu, famous for its papercraft, the landscaper conceived the series Noguchi's Akari lighting design in 1951.
“We wondered: what if Akari had been carved directly from a huge light form?” the designers explained. It was from this question that Light Fragment was created. “This gave us an idea that the fragments of the carved stone should be beautifully luminous".
