An icon of modern architecture and Brazilian design, the
Museu da Casa Brasileira , the only one in the country dedicated entirely to
architecture and furniture , will gain a new headquarters that has everything to do with its identity: the
Casa Modernista , located in the Vila Mariana neighborhood, south of São Paulo.
Last week, the institution announced that
it would close its activities at the Solar Prado property at the end of April . The news took many people by surprise, especially given the lack of information about where the works would be sent. The
Museu da Casa Brasileira had been based at the site since 1972 .
The reason for the change of location was the
end of the agreement signed with the Padre Anchieta Foundation , owner of the property.
Activities will end on April 30 , when the museum will once again be the responsibility of the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of the State of São Paulo.
Despite the new headquarters, not all of the works will go to the Casa Modernista, since part of the collection is owned by the Fundação Padre Anchieta and will remain at the current headquarters. Currently, the
MCB has approximately 1,400 works, of which 450 will remain at the Solar . The museum is expected to reopen in 2025. Until then, the MCB's works (around 940 pieces) should remain in a technical reserve or at the
Ipiranga Museum .
