Janete Costa is one of the
most influential architects of modern times. In her 50-year career, the architect has designed a bit of everything:
public buildings, libraries, theaters, cinemas, auditoriums, galleries and, in particular, hotels and residences located in several Brazilian cities. . Janete, from Pernambuco, passed away in 2008, but her work continues to inspire new generations of architects, including her son,
Mario Santos , who signed a project for
CASACOR Pernambuco 2024 inspired not only by his mother's work, but also by the particular universe that made up her tireless mind.

Part of Janete's work also stands out in her
authorial design . She worked with different materials, such as wood, in furniture and upholstery projects at the Escala company in Niterói. In 1960, she created
Senzala – her first furniture line – right there. In the 1970s, he made extensive use of
acrylic in lighting fixtures and various utilitarian and decorative objects.
With love and longing, Mario Santos sought to convey his mother's personality traits in a faithful and creative way. He has always been a great admirer of Janete's work and life. "
I loved traveling with her. I observed everything closely and learned a lot. More than to choose and select, she taught me to see beauty in things and people", wrote the architect in Janete Costa – Um olhar. The
mix of textures, popular works of art and a lot of Brazilianness in the chosen design were some of the elements adopted by Mario Santos to connect his space to everything his mother represented.
"The environment should encompass generosity, harmony, dynamism, determination, aesthetics, truth, art, architecture and Brazilianness. It should be immense to fit his heart. Intelligent to fit his genius. Small enough to fit his immense humility", concludes the architect.
