An element of nature that presents different textures, characteristic tones and diverse compositions, earth refers to our origins as a symbol of existence. This is the starting point and theme for the eleventh edition of
MADE – Mercado Arte e Design , which for the second time takes place at the new Pacaembu Complex and is held simultaneously with the
ArPa art fair, from May 31st to June 4th, 2023. With the purpose of presenting the author behind the piece, MADE is led by partners
Waldick Jatobá ,
Bruno Simões and
Elcio Gozzo and presents, as usual,
new names that promise to emerge on the national art and design circuit . In addition, there will also be educational and specialized visits, conversation circles and an institutional exhibition in honor of
Paulo Mendes da Rocha with the Kamayura village.

Started in 2019 by Naná Mendes da Rocha, the
Paulistano Xingu project will be presented to the public during MADE. This is the result of design research in order to fulfill the original desire of architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha in the design of the Paulistano Chair:
to use fabric covers with natural fiber made by indigenous people , in this case, the
Kamayura village , located in Alto Xingu, made by artists
Itsaru Kamayura ,
Kaiti Kamayura ,
Mamalu Kamayura ,
Yakwakalu Kamayura and
Yakmairu Kamayura .

Naná Mendes da Rocha, the architect's daughter, visited the Kamayura village in 2019 and was enchanted by the ethnic group's beautiful textile work:
the buriti hammocks . “Considering my father's desire in the original project to create a cover for the
Paulistano chair in partnership with indigenous people, we wanted to test the possibility with them. Chief Kotok Kamayura was excited about the idea and we planned this project together, which took
more than four years to complete and will finally be presented to the public”, explains Naná. Five chairs will be presented with
covers woven by different people , each one carrying the collective process, part of its culture, and even more so the
uniqueness of those who created them.
