With a historic decision, the project for the firstretirement home for LGBTQI+ peoplein the UK has begun. A milestone in social responsibility and an example of inclusion, as London has the largest populationof LGBTQI+ seniors , estimated at145,000 people.The £5.7 million ($7.9 million or €6.6 million) loan from the Greater London Authority will enable the purchase of 19 units in the Vauxhall area of south London, it said. Tonic Housing, an association created in 2014 to address the problems of loneliness and isolation among elderly people in the LGBTQI+ community and the need for specific housing and support services .

“I am proud to support the creation of theUK’s first LGBTQI+ retirement community. Older Londoners deserve to enjoy their years in safety and comfort , surrounded by a supportive community,” saidSadiq Khan, the city’s mayor.

The project provides affordable care housing: 59 apartments for subsidized rent and another 25 for shared use, with 1 or 2 bedrooms, accompanied by a communal space overlooking the River Thames, a hanging garden and a roof terrace with stunning images of central London.

The attention, events and services at the complex will be aimed at the homosexual, bisexual and trans community, but will not exclude people who do not identify with it.
