The National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome, designed by Zaha Haddid, has just opened another exhibition in homage to the Italian-Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi. Called Lina Bo Bardi - Un meraviglioso groviglio (Lina Bo Bardi - a wonderful tangle), the exhibition is curated by Luigia Lonardelli and will be open to the public until January 17, 2021.
&feature=emb_title The entire project was inspired by the architect’s famous quote: “Linear time is a Western invention. Time is not linear, it is a wonderful tangle in which, at any moment, one can choose points and invent solutions, without beginning or end.” Thus, the goal was to build a scenario in which the past and present, both of Lina and of her works, could mix and dialogue.
To this end, English filmmaker Isaac Julien created nine video installations, as well as a series of photographs in which a combination of fiction and reality compose a non-linear timeline.

Filming was done in several locations in Brazil, including the São Paulo Museum of Art, the Bahia Museum of Modern Art and the Gregário de Matos Theater in Salvador. Special mention should be made of the participation of Fernanda Montenegro and Fernanda Torres, both playing Lina in the videos. The two actresses, mother and daughter, bring the works to life, somehow bringing them closer to their creator. In the videos in which they talk, they manage to bring to life the wonderful tangle that was Lina Bo Bardi's universe.
