Urbanization has given Brazilian cities a new style of living, characterized by increasingly compressed spaces and distance from the natural environment. Concrete has taken over everything – and with it, greenery has become rarefied. With modern living in mind,
Alalou Paisagismo developed a project for small gardens that stray from the conventional for
CASACOR São Paulo .
The geometric character of the project is inspired by the modernist painter
Piet Mondrian , who believed in neoplasticism as the expression of a world organized by harmony. Thus, his works acquired mainly rectangular shapes, fitted together in primary tones.
The geometrization in Felipe and Maria Lúcia Alalou's project reestablishes the structure of the spaces and, stimulated by symmetry,
directs the gaze upwards through vertical lines. Pandora's Garden also derives from a series of references to the world of fantasy. The name comes both from Greek mythology, from the myth that describes a magic box that holds all the surprises and evils of the world; and from cinematography, especially the film Avatar. – which turns a decade old in December this year –, whose planet Pandora is home to exotic plants with exuberant colors.
So, they opted for elevated wooden boxes, which make the most of the space, level with the ground. Red was the tone chosen to enhance the garden, alluding to the rich nature of the fantasy universe.
