The furniture design market starts the year with a bang. Every January, imm Cologne kicks off the industry's activities. The international trade fair always takes place in Cologne, Germany, and in 2019 it will be held from the 14th to the 20th. . The theme of this edition is New Interior Worlds . With this approach, to facilitate visiting, the fair was divided by styles, where each particular universe prioritizes a different aspect: comfort, purity, sleep, travel, luxury, etc. imm Cologne is one of the leading international events in the sector, presenting new trends in furniture and interiors at the beginning of each year and surprising visitors with numerous market-ready innovations.

Studio Sebastian Herkner will showcase new designs for brands such as Ames, Tradition, Pulpo, Schoenbuch, Thonet and Wittmann, as well as pieces for new partners such as Freifrau and Zanotta. Ona is the first collection for German furniture brand Freifrau. The design is inspired by the idea of having upholstered piping that accentuates the silhouette of the seat (pictured). The delicate detailing gives the chair a strong and iconic presence.

Last year, Herkner designed a 1950s-inspired trolley for Schönbuch, and in 2019 he returns with a colorful project that exudes similar sophistication. The ‘Souvenir’ drawers are hinged in lacquered MDF and available in a mix of playful hues from emerald green to flamingo pink.

German brand Pulpo adds a range of lighting fixtures to its portfolio with the 'Light Now, Vol. I' collection. Collaborating with Sebastian Herkner and Ferréol Babin, the works express the brand's innovation with materials. Taking place inside a railway bunker, this satellite event is part of the city’s design week. The project explores how the environment can influence a product and includes work from four German designers: Karoline Fesser, Klemens Grund, Thomas Schnur and Tim Kerp. The result is eclectic, with Kerp’s furniture pieces inspired by the Cologne cityscape, while Fesser’s products are made from dust.
