Today, asphalt concrete is responsible for the emission of 1.5 million tons of carbon dioxide per year, and in early 2018, the European Union launched an urgent plan so that by 2030, all plastic packaging waste will be reusable or recycled.
The fate of plastic used on the planet is one of the key issues of sustainability. In September, the Netherlands – internationally renowned for its widespread use of cycle paths – may have come up with a possible solution. A new cycle path has just been opened in Zwolle, in the northeast of the country. the first cycle path that has 70% recycled plastic from bottles, cups and packaging in its composition. The path is 30 m long, contains the equivalent of 218 thousand plastic cups and should last three times longer than its asphalt counterpart.
