In the middle of the Atlantic Forest, São Paulo gains a new ecological park
Located in São Bernardo do Campo, the park opens to the public on November 29th!

Preserving and educating through the concept of sustainable development and the Japanese philosophy of Mottainai – which seeks to eliminate waste. These are the pillars of the Imigrantes Ecological Park , designed and built respecting environmental principles, which opens on November 29th!With a total area of 484 thousand m² of preserved forest, dedicated to expanding understanding of the environment and its importance in society, the park is located in the Heart of the Atlantic Forest.The PEI will promote educational and transformative projects that demonstrate a new way of relating to nature. The role of the park becomes strategic and very relevant, since the Atlantic Forest is very degraded – and we do not give it the importance it deserves in the environmental context. International.

The reserve project meets the highest requirements of national and international environmental agencies. Conceived, designed and built in compliance with socio-environmental principles, social inclusion is closely related to environmental conservation. The construction was carried out in partnership with the Kunito Miyasaka Foundation, linked to to the Japanese community in the country. With an investment of R$14 million, the park's objective is to preserve the natural reserve and encourage environmental education research.This is the first park in the world to receive the international AQUA-HQE certification from the Vanzolini Foundation. In 2017, CASACOR São Paulo 's Sustainable House received the same seal.
The shapes, volumes and structures of the site enhance and allow for the contemplation of nature, causing the least possible impact on the environment: in the construction of the elevated walkway, the main place where people circulate, plastic wood was used in the construction. This material has high resistance to humidity and requires low maintenance; a photovoltaic and wind system provides energy to the arch, with three hours of autonomy, feeding the power and lighting grid.The systems are located in places where visitors can observe energy generation through alternative and clean sources. Waste management is also a relevant issue: more than 92% of construction waste was recovered and reused, many of which became material for construction.

Visitors can enjoy six different trails, which provide insights into the specificities of the flora, as well as the history of human interference in the region. The trails are short and have few obstacles.In addition, the park is fully accessible: in addition to two elevators, platforms, access ramps, cable cars on inclined planes and handrails are part of the construction. Electronic audio resources and a sensory trail also allow visually impaired people and people with special needs to enjoy of the coexistence of nature.

The park is located at kilometer 34.5 of the Imigrantes highway, in the direction of São Paulo, near the Curucutu neighborhood, in São Bernardo. Free visits can be scheduled from December onwards, through the website.
