The Brazilian Institute of Architects – São Paulo Department (IABsp) will recognize the best projects of 2018 at the IABsp 2018 – 75 YEARS Awards. Project submissions were accepted until November 25 in the categories buildings, institutional, restoration/requalification, interior architecture, urban planning, ephemeral architecture, architectural publishing, architectural and urban photography, students, wood and urban activism.
The project's goal is to bring a new perspective to the stairways of the city of São Paulo, which are generally abandoned and run down. Stairways are seen as unsafe places by the population, and are generally used when there are no other options. The project's challenge is to reveal the potential that staircases hide, through simple and participatory interventions, allowing these places to be reintegrated into the walking mobility network and used as public spaces for permanent activities, providing meeting, socializing and the practice of physical activities and leisure in the city. The Sidewalk of All Colors , designed by Lao Design and Zoom Urbanism, Architecture and Design, is also competing in the Ephemeral Architecture Category. A place for coexistence, respect for others and the exercise of citizenship, the sidewalk is a space full of meaning. Therefore, the 400 m² were converted into an environment for occupation and permanence, with a lounge, artistic interventions and gardens. The award ceremony will take place on December 6th, starting at 6:30 pm, at the IABsp headquarters, Rua Bento Freitas, 306, mezzanine, São Paulo/SP.
