The American company has come up with a pair of shades that will help people strengthen themselves with energy, clarity and hope.

Although it wasn't the first time that Pantone chose two shades for a year, the company surprised by selecting a duo of colors for 2021: Ultimate Gray (PANTONE 17-5104) and Illuminating (PANTONE 13-0647).

Illuminating is a warm, vibrant yellow that evokes the optimistic promise of a sunny day. Ultimate Gray is a calmer shade of gray that speaks of composure, firmness, and resilience, providing a solid foundation for building a new future after a 2020 of many transformations.

“The selection of two independent colors highlights how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hope that is both lasting and healing,” explained Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

“Practical and solid, yet warm and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope,” Leatrice Eiseman continued. “We need to feel encouraged and uplifted, it is essential for the human spirit.”
