One of the most important dates to remember the importance of environmental awareness is this Wednesday, June 5, when World Environment Day is celebrated. Established by the UN in 1974, the date mobilizes the international community — including governments, companies, personalities and individuals — to take action in favor of preserving the natural environment. In addition to drawing attention to current environmental problems, the date also encourages the adoption of sustainable attitudes in everyday life. The topic of sustainability has also been increasingly discussed in architecture , which has been mobilizing efforts to overcome the challenge of living in harmony with the environment, seeking solutions and resources to popularize sustainable construction . Among the ecological and architectural measures are modular construction , water conservation, reduction in the emission of polluting gases, increased energy efficiency, management of construction waste and even the construction of completely green buildings , planned from conception to completion to readjust the microclimate and improve the quality of life in cities.

One of the pillars of CASACOR 's exhibitions, sustainability is a principle adopted in all projects. Every year, the exhibitions present projects that demonstrate how to apply sustainability at home, value the reuse and correct disposal of construction waste and even build entire houses designed to minimize the impact on the ecosystem. In 2024, the central theme of discussion for World Environment Day is land restoration , following a year marked by climate change and heat waves around the world. Environmentalists believe that reversing droughts and soil degradation is one of the most effective ways to minimize the negative impacts of global warming.

Below, check out 11 tips on how to be more environmentally friendly in your daily life: 1 – Leave your car in the garage at least once a week . The tip is to prioritize public transportation or the use of bicycles. In addition to being good for your health, it allows you to have a surplus in your household budget and avoids the generation of CO2 and wasted hours in traffic. Organizing carpooling among neighbors also generates positive results.
3 – Separate your waste for selective collection . Create a space for a vegetable garden at home, even if it’s small, and use the waste to make compost . This makes your diet healthier and reduces costs at the end of the month at the supermarket/market. 4 – Reduce water usage . If you have an electric shower, avoid heating the water unnecessarily in the summer. Do not wash your car or sidewalk with a hose. When you are not rinsing, remember to turn off the tap while showering or washing dishes. It is also advisable to load a large number of clothes in the washing machine. The difference in your electricity bill, especially during red flag periods, can be significant. 5 – Whenever possible, collect rainwater . With it, you can wash areas and sidewalks, for example. 6 – Turn off the lights in rooms where there is no one, avoid leaving electrical appliances or electronic devices on unnecessarily. If you are going on a trip, unplug all devices from the socket . 7 – Give preference to organic products that are sold by local producers. 8 – Rethink your consumption habits . The question is: “Do I really need to buy this?” This applies to fashion, decoration and food. 9 – Small changes in behavior can make a big difference: taking your own bag when shopping, using your own bottle, pen or cup at home and in the office, avoiding the use of disposable materials . 10 – Do not throw dental floss, wet wipes, cotton swabs and sanitary pads in the toilet. This also applies to food and cooking oil in the sink. 11 – Find out about the products you are purchasing. Check if they have low energy consumption labels. Find out about solar energy .[newsletter]
