To discuss Belo Horizonte's leading role in the second generation of modernism, on January 21st and 22nd, 2023, Casa do Baile will host the ECOS - Modernismo Plural project. Free of charge, the event, consisting of lectures, mini talks , workshops, urban interventions and guided visits to the Pampulha architectural complex, aims to demonstrate that the theme deserves continuous celebrations and reflections and also aims to enhance the Pampulha territory as a World Heritage Site. The meeting seeks to present to those interested the historical and artistic heritage of BH, through a possibility of reading Brazilian modernism beyond the São Paulo discussion , claiming the leading role of Belo Horizonte and the transversality of Minas Gerais modernism with the national discussion.

The event is part of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Pampulha Architectural and Landscape Complex (opened in 1943) and brings special attention to the Casa do Baile, the epicenter of the event, which completed its 20th anniversary as an Architecture Reference Center in 2023, Urbanism and Design.

“There have been many developments in modernism since the Week, but little is said about the arrival of the modernist caravan to the still peaceful Belo Horizonte in 1944, through an action promoted by the then mayor Juscelino Kubitscheck, where the most important artists and intellectuals of the period came to visit the Pampulha complex and participate in the Modern Art Exhibition , which had eight works exhibited”, commented Lucas Amorim , creator of the project, art historian and cultural manager. According to him, the modernists – which was the name given to those professionals who "designed the new arts", considered at the time as modern – were inspired and legitimized by specific notions of nation, identity, memory, art and architecture .
