In line with the theme of CASACOR São Paulo 2024 , " As a gift, the now ", architect Barbara Dundes presents Casa Tao , a space that celebrates the connection with Taoism and nature , highlighting the constancy of the cycles of transformation of the universe. In this environment, intense flows are welcomed by the density of matter, allowing a synchrony between consciousness and shapes, colors, rhythms and textures. This provides an experience where memories of other times and spaces are accessed, processed and internalized. Inspiration from Taoism , an Eastern philosophical tradition, is evident in every aspect of the project. The concept of Tao, which means “way” or “method,” guides the design of the space, promoting a harmonious connection between the past and the present, between the artisanal and the technological . At the entrance to the space, a tree symbolizes the connection with what is primitive, providing a sense of respite and relief, and highlighting the appreciation of the essential. Barbara Dundes emphasizes that the artisanal contribution of each person involved was essential to the concept and creation of the space. "We know that, in this process of bringing our space to life, the breath of each person involved in this artisanal cycle also contributed to the uniqueness that characterizes Casa Tao. It transforms each detail into a connected whole," explains the architect. The project consists of a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and living room , distributed over 62m². The entrance surfaces, such as the portico around the tree and the wall behind the sofa in the living room, were covered with a brushed steel material, in line with the trend of metallic tones . The floor, covered with a collection of terracotta-toned bricks, evokes artisanal practices to create a comfortable and natural environment. In addition, the versatile custom rug contributes to the elegance of the environment, while the selection of exclusive furniture brings functionality and class. Complementing the decor, a sophisticated selection of crystal, stainless steel, Portuguese ceramic and porcelain utensils adds a touch of refinement to the space. The presence of pieces in borosilicate glass and jatobá wood reinforces the integration between the natural and the contemporary, essential characteristics of the project. Barbara Dundes' project highlights the importance of revisiting our roots to find value and poetry , it is a manifestation of how simplicity and ancestry can inspire and shape our worldview, even in an increasingly digital context.
