Residência Tomie Ohtake por Ruy Ohtake (Nelson Kon/CASACOR)
Always working with different shapes and fun colors, Ruy Ohtake stood out for his bold and striking projects. One of his main contributions was the
brutalist style , which he brought a new face to and strengthened the trend in Brazil with his construction "
Casa Brutalista " - built to serve as a home and studio for the artist Tomie Ohtake, his mother. The main difference that set him apart from other great names, such as Vilanova Artigas and Oscar Niemeyer, was precisely the use of colors combined with rounded and striking shapes.
In addition to his great urban planning work, Ruy was also a designer and taught at the Mackenzie School of Architecture and the Catholic University of Santos. He graduated from FAU (University of Architecture and Urbanism of USP) in 1960. In addition to Brazil, the architect was also responsible for projects abroad, such as the Brazilian embassy in Tokyo . He was also part of the CASACOR team. Other projects developed by him were the Tietê Ecological Park, the adaptation of the Cícero Pompeu Stadium in 2014 for the World Cup, the Expresso Tiradentes transport system and the Heliópolis Housing Complex (all in São Paulo). The wake will take place today and will be closed to family members. The architect will be cremated.
