The kitchen became a cafe; the shower room gave way to a meeting space; and what was a refuge turned into a wine cellar. Some of the most iconic environments at CASACOR Rio 2021 received very different solutions – and settings – in the hands of this year's cast. And the result couldn't be more surprising. After all, that's what interior architecture is all about: presenting functional projects that meet the client's needs, without giving up beauty, design and art!

One of the biggest transformations in the house is, without a doubt, in the kitchen. In 2021, the duo Andréa Duarte and Anna Malta kept the original Portuguese tiles on the walls, creating a contemporary ambience that turned the space into a true living kitchen , winning over the visiting public. For this year, architect Vivian Reimers gave a completely different look to the environment, which was transformed into Café da Casa , a functional space that needs to receive and serve the public. The first big change to the look was hiding the tiles. They are still there, protected by layers of MDF. But anyone who visits this edition sees a wall covered in paper with a foliage pattern . The original cabinets were also maintained, but gained new configurations. At the end of the exhibition, everything returns to its original format , as the house is listed by INEPAC (State Institute of Cultural Heritage).

Right next door, what was once the pantry took on the appearance of a refuge in 2021 at the hands of architect Adriana Esteves . A space, although small, had everything: a seating area, a bar, lots of books. Because Ana Cano and Claudia Infante discovered the original basement of the residence beneath it. Result: this year the space now houses a wine cellar , with a small seating area facing the garden.

Another space that was a huge success last year was the Bath Room , by Beto Figueiredo and Luiz Eduardo Almeida . The space that houses one of the most iconic pieces in the Residence's collection – the marble bathtub that would have belonged to Empress Teresa Cristina – gained a new function this year: the Meeting Room and Brando Barbosa Gallery . The space, decorated by the duo Ric Melo and Rodrigo Passos , was completely renovated to host meetings and gatherings at the cultural institute. The charm lies in the institute's own collection, displayed in showcases set up in the old closet and even in the bathtub, which received a beautiful collection of opalines . Innovative and very interesting solution. CASACOR Rio opens from Tuesday to Sunday until June 26th at Residência Brando Barbosa, in Jardim Botânico. There are 45 environments decorated by 43 teams of professionals including architects, interior designers and landscapers. Just like last year, the exhibition is hybrid, with an in-person version and a digital version, with 3D tours available on the website!
