A cultural institute with open doors – for the arts, culture, visitors, the city. This is the proposal that emerges from the next edition of
CASACOR Rio , which will occupy, for the second consecutive year, the
Brando Barbosa Residence , an iconic property located in the charming neighborhood of Jardim Botânico, in the South Zone of Rio, and surrounded by the green of the Atlantic Forest. With 2,500 square meters of built area, the main house has on the first floor
rooms that used to receive Rio's high society for lunches and parties hosted by the former owners, the couple Jorge and Odaléa Brando Barbosa. In this proposal for cultural occupation of the house,
the spaces maintain their original vocation – but now focused on culture, arts and encounters. These are spaces designed to welcome visitors, whether at a soiree held in the room created by
Thiago Freire – which features the residence’s original piano –; or at a
happy hour with wine, in the space decorated by
Mauricio Nóbrega ,
Bia Wolff and
Maria Estellita ; or at a book launch or a casual meeting in the room decorated by
Paola Ribeiro and open to the house's charming outdoor patio – this time, prepared to welcome visitors to CASACOR Rio, who will have
another space to socialize there.
In this context, the kitchen takes on a new function: that of
a café open to the public , with an outdoor
deck . Meanwhile, the old pantry will house a
renovated wine cellar . The second floor will be transformed into a
kind of guesthouse : a place designed to receive guests from other cultural institutions and artists who could spend a few days there. For this, in addition to
small studios with space to work and rest, there will be a lounge, a home office, a meeting room and even a
space for decompression and relaxation .
In the gardens, which occupy
12 thousand square meters of land , there are more leisure and social areas. The patio next to the pool has an extra space:
Pavilion 22 , which in addition to paying homage to the centenary of the Modern Art Week of 1922, will serve as another place to
hold events such as workshops and lectures – a creation by
Mario Costa Santos . The pool will have a bar, this time dedicated to
drinks and the arts, with an
installation that promises to be a big sensation at the show – an idea by architect
Gisele Taranto , curated by
Vanda Klabin . And there's more: studios and ateliers, measuring 40 to 80m², built in
metal residential modules similar to containers that could accommodate artists and designers invited to temporary residencies at the institute.
The old garage and service area also give way to a new vocation: that of
a gastronomic complex with a restaurant,
wine bar and even more surprises than in previous editions. All created by architect
Erick Figueira de Melo and operated by
Cooking Buffet , by Adriana Mattar and Ana Cecilia Gros. "We want our visitors to
experience the house , which is a jewel of Rio's architecture previously reserved for a select few, and to be able to enjoy this moment, which is one of encounters and reunions," says
Patricia Quentel , managing partner of the exhibition.
CASACOR Rio 2022 will take place from April 27 to June 26 and tickets are already on sale at
https://casacorrj.byinti.com/ . Just like last year, the show will be hybrid. In addition to the in-person version, there will be possible
