One of the biggest and most memorable editions of
Milan Design Week 2021 is about to begin! Set to take place
between September 5th and 10th , this year's Salone del Mobile has been dubbed "
Super Salone " and aims to revive the event's innovative way to make up for last year, when the show had to be cancelled. This is the most important
event in the design and furniture sector in the world and will celebrate its 60th anniversary with some new features – such as the arrival of architect
Stefano Boeri as curator. And as expected, the fair explores new design trends and what's hot for the post-pandemic period. For Stefano Boeri, "It's a special edition, which brings with it some characteristics such as courage, optimism and faith." Boeri promises that this will be one of the most memorable shows of all time, a truly “unique and immersive design event”, especially since Milan Design Week 2021 will be the first event aimed at welcoming the general public and not just for industry groups. The proposal for a year of pandemic is to occupy only 4 pavilions of the Rho complex that receives 400 exhibitors. Instead of individual stands, the expography has modular structures to display the products. The innovative solution offers a reduction in assembly costs and materials. Companies are grateful and so is the environment.
What can we expect from Milan Design Week 2021?
Rigor and great professionalism are characteristics that should prevail in the great exhibition. In addition to Boeri, other great names in architecture and design are involved, such as:
Maria Cistina Didero and Anniina Koivu, and also Marco Ferrari and Elisa Pasqual, the duo in charge of the Studio Folder . Attention to sustainability and care for nature will be strong pillars of this event. As in recent years, the facilities will be recycled after the show, not to mention the partnership between
Salone Del Mobile and the regional initiative "
Forestami ", which aims to create 200 trees that will later be planted in Milan.
A major debut that could make all the difference is the arrival of the new management taken on by the recently appointed president
Maria Porro , who used to hold the position of marketing director of the Italian design brand Porro. For those who plan to follow
Milan Design Week 2021 , you can expect plenty of new and technological ideas to help you face future challenges. For those who are unable to attend the exhibition in person, the good news is that the
event organizers have prepared a virtual tour so that those who do not feel comfortable visiting the space in person can check out what's new.
What will the lectures be like?
Visitors can rest assured that they will be comfortable, as the lounge was designed by none other than designer
Giorgio Donà . He created a highly interactive stage that invites visitors to interact with design icons. Every day, visitors will be able to enjoy a series of lectures organized by
Maria Cristina Didero , who brought together big names in design, such as
Humberto Campana, Bjarke Ingels, Carsten Höller, Paola Pivi, Beatriz Colomina, Cecilia Alemani, Formafantasma and Philippe Malouin. Topics such as design, art, architecture, sustainability, circular economy, among other subjects will be present in the experts' speeches.
In addition to the
Super Salone , another exhibition that will be available in the space for anyone who wants to visit is "Take Your Seat - Solidão e Convivência da Cadeira", curated by Nina Bassoli in partnership with ADI / Compasso d'Oro.
