The Salone del Mobile 2026 returns as the most anticipated moment on the international design calendar, bringing together professionals and enthusiasts from April 21 to 26 at the Rho Fiera fairgrounds, in Milan. Since its inception in 1961, the fair has established itself as a showcase for proposals that explore furniture from an expressive perspective, aligning functional, technological, and material innovation with everyday life.

In its 64th edition, the event reaffirms its role as a space for experimentation and exchange, where new pathways for contemporary design are charted. Under the presidency of Maria Porro, the 2026 event expands its reach by proposing a more connected and inclusive experience, bringing together more than 1,900 exhibitors and strengthening Milan as a global reference in contemporary design.

Theme of Salone del Mobile 2026: “A Matter of Salone”

In 2026, the fair presents the theme “A Matter of Salone”, which shifts the focus of design to the essence of materials. The proposal invites reflection on matter not only as a constructive basis, but as cultural expression and a sensitive language, expanding perception beyond form and function.

Conceived as a multidisciplinary project that brings together different visual and scenographic languages, the theme explores matter as something that carries memory, meaning, and possibilities for transformation. This approach permeates the fair experience, encouraging a more tactile, intuitive, and process-oriented reading of design.

Key debuts of the edition: Salone Contract and Salone Raritas

Among the highlights, the event introduces a more integrated experience, in which routes, content, and installations connect seamlessly. In this context, Salone Contract emerges, a project developed by Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten of OMA, which proposes a new reading of the sector. The initiative stems from a significant shift: design ceases to be understood as an isolated field and comes to integrate broader systems that involve services, logistics, and operational strategies.

In 2026, Salone Contract appears in an initial format, embedded within the fair itself through thematic routes, forums, and a talk by Koolhaas. The proposal highlights how areas such as hospitality, retail, and real estate already operate in an interconnected way, demanding collaboration among designers, companies, and investors. More than an exhibition, the project presents itself as a research field in the making, which will be deepened in a dedicated showcase in the coming years.

Another noteworthy debut is Salone Raritas, which introduces a more sensitive, curatorial layer to the event. Bringing together around 25 galleries and international platforms, the initiative is dedicated to collectible design – exploring unique pieces, limited editions, and objects that carry a strong material identity.

Curated by Annalisa Rosso with exhibition design by the studio Formafantasma, Salone Raritas values rarity not as luxury, but as language. The proposal foregrounds authorship, narrative, and materiality as central elements of contemporary design.

Biennial exhibitions to follow

Among the biennial exhibitions that accompany the main event, EuroCucina has returned as an international reference in kitchen design since its creation in 1974. Now, the showcase brings together more than 100 brands from 17 countries and reinforces the transformation of this project, which ceases to be merely functional to take on a central role in social living.

Technological innovation also takes center stage, especially at FTK (Technology for the Kitchen), a parallel event dedicated to advanced solutions. Smart appliances, interactive surfaces, and increasingly discreet systems join sustainable, tactile materials. Meanwhile, at the International Bathroom Exhibition, with 163 exhibitors, the room is reinterpreted as a well-being refuge, guided by the concept of longevity, with products designed to offer durability, comfort, and a more sensorial experience.

SaloneSatellite: keeping an eye on new designers around the world

With more than 700 designers up to 35 years old and the participation of 23 international schools and universities, SaloneSatellite remains one of the most relevant platforms for observing the paths of emerging design. Historically, the space reveals talents that, shortly thereafter, become part of the global circuit with recognized collections, establishing itself as a sensitive barometer of new creative generations.

In the 2026 edition, the project is guided by the theme Maestria artigiana + Innovazione (Specialized Craftsmanship + Innovation), highlighting works that articulate manual know-how and technology. The proposals range from circular economies to local identities and alternative production models, revealing a design built from the dialogue between tradition and experimentation.

After all, how to find your way among so many exhibitions and activities?

To organize the scale of the fair’s 169,000 m², Salone del Mobile 2026 presents a new signage system developed by the studio Leftloft, designed to make circulation more intuitive and fluid. Inspired by neuroscience and the logic of urban rail networks, the project establishes a clear visual hierarchy that guides visitors among pavilions, biennials, and cultural installations, making time management and spatial legibility easier.

The proposal also invests in easy-to-assimilate visual codes, with colors and forms that reduce the effort of interpretation, especially for the international audience. Meeting points and rest areas have been strategically distributed to balance flows along the route, while accessibility is consolidated as a priority.
