Milan Design Week 2026 finds, in the course proposed by Rossana Orlandi, a turning point that is more conceptual than expository. In RoCollectible, the gallery transforms into a field of inquiry where design ceases to operate only as form and comes to act as language — and, above all, as passage.

The axis of the 2026 edition is straightforward and, at the same time, unexpected: the door. Treated as an archetype, it structures the exhibition's entire narrative, calling designers, artists, and architects to reimagine an element often relegated to neutrality. Here, what was once a technical limit reappears as a symbolic device, capable of condensing ideas of transition, intimacy, and exposure.

Curated by Orlandi alongside Nicoletta Brugnoni, the exhibition unfolds as a plural cartography bringing together more than 70 international voices. Between emerging names and established practitioners, the ensemble proposes a polyphonic reading of the contemporary, spanning material research, formal experimentation, and sensitive narratives.

By shifting the door away from its utilitarian function, RoCollectible repositions it as experience. Distorted scales, tactile surfaces, plays of light and sound, and hybrid solutions reconfigure the everyday gesture of crossing — opening space for a slower, almost choreographed perception of movement between inside and outside. In this context, the threshold ceases to be merely passage and becomes permanence, an interval where design becomes consciousness.

There is also an implicit commentary on the present: in a scenario dominated by standardization and efficiency, the door emerges as a territory of singularity. Treated as a collectible piece, it absorbs layers of identity — whether through artisanal techniques, repurposed materials, or narrative constructions that evoke memory and fiction.

Spread across the gallery's projects on Via Matteo Bandello, the exhibition assumes a nearly cinematic logic, in which each work functions as a framing and each opening suggests a new sequence. Among collages, sculptural objects, and habitable structures, RoCollectible 2026 not only presents pieces but also poses questions: what separates and what connects? And, above all, what can still emerge when one decides to cross.
