One of the world's oldest inventions – the rope – is getting a new twist from Belgian design studio
Atelier Ief Spincemaille . Dubbed
ROPE 6M , the object is an exaggeratedly large version of a regular rope that,
due to its surprising proportions, can serve as a everything except rope .

“Because ROPE is disproportionately large, it has lost its function as a rope,” explains the visual artist. Whether used as an expressive functional sculpture or a playful piece of furniture, the possibilities of the piece are as vast as one’s imagination.
“When in ROPE, people are physically connected in a unique way – between sitting and lying, touching and talking, together in one object – this sculpture
creates new ways of being together ,” says Ief Spincemaille. "Sitting on the rope, we look in different directions and seem to experience silence completely differently.
If one person shifts or moves, ROPE also rearranges itself and the choreography is created parallel to the conversation."

The object is produced in limited editions and handwoven in Belgium using a technique developed by the studio
based on traditional weaving craftsmanship . Lef Spincemaille worked on the development of the object together with textile designer
