Design & Sustainable Wood emerged in 2017, from the need to combine design and socio-environmental responsibility. Resulting from the partnership between
BV Rio and
COOMFLONA (Mixed Cooperative of FLONA Tapajós), the project takes renowned Brazilian designers to the Amazon and encourages exchange of knowledge about furniture design and construction with the local community. Featured at
MADE – Mercado Arte Design, an international collectible design fair –, the project will bring pieces from this partnership to an unprecedented exhibition in Vila Mariana, in São Paulo, between August 21st and 25th.
The immersive training carried out with riverside dwellers addresses the concerns of community forest management, and produces high added value pieces with sustainably extracted wood, with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification. The initiative, in addition to developing the community, promotes the use of wood without deforesting the forest. Names such as Zanini de Zanine, Hugo França, Fernando Mendes and Oficina Ethos have already been part of the project. The event will be accompanied by a talk, with the presence of designers Carlos Motta , Claudia Moreira Salles , Leonardo Lattavo from Lattoog and Paulo Alves . On the occasion, a documentary will also be released celebrating the completion of this stage of the project.
