Noel Marinho's works are celebrated at CASACOR Rio

It's not just the original 18th century tiles present in the bathrooms and kitchen of Palacete Brando Barbosa that have been attracting attention in this 30th edition of CASACOR Rio . Modernist pieces created by architect Noel Marinho also steal the show in some spaces. At Terraço NM , decorated by Patrícia Marinho and Manoèle Colas (professionals in charge of Estúdio Noel Marinho), the entire atmosphere was created using furniture from the Angra line : tables and benches covered with “Rogers” tiles, created exclusively for the outdoor area . The furniture – developed by the duo during the quarantine period in 2020 – was created based on drawings left by Noel , who died in 2018, aged 90. A detail that draws attention: in addition to the beauty and contemporary nature of the pieces, which almost look like a work of art, is the comfort of these furniture. The secret is in the side cut of the tiles, always done at 45º, which still guarantees a perfect fit between the pieces . "We have around 80 tile designs catalogued. And they can all be produced in different colors within the Noel palette , which has 24 shades such as blue, green, black, caramel, which makes the composition possibilities almost infinite" highlights Manoèle.

In a suit, anyone who sees the Parati bench covered with tiles from the Lina Bo line in Ricardo Portilho's Jardim do Café , for example, might even imagine that the colors were ordered to match the bamboo grove in the space. But, they already existed in exactly that tone. And there is also Noel in two other environments : in O Refúgio , by architect Adriana Esteves, he appears in a painting used in the kitchen space; and in the Library , by Andréa Chicharo, he is on the carpet, which features an enlarged drawing of a tile . Another of the innovations of Estúdio Noel Marinho, which since 2017 has taken care of the architect's legacy and spread his art even further with the creation of furniture, art pieces, decorative objects and rugs. Born in 1927, Noel Marinho participated intensely in Brazilian modernist architectural production, from the mid-1950s onwards. An excellent draftsman and designer, he was always especially interested in mosaics, tile panels and murals . A work that was forgotten for a while until it was resumed in 2012. From 2015 onwards, with encouragement from his daughter Patricia, Noel's works began to be cataloged and updated , still with his active participation. CASACOR Rio has the participation of 57 professionals , including architects, interior designers and landscapers. Until April 20th, the Brando Barbosa Residence, where the 38 exhibition spaces were set up, is closed due to restrictions on the movement of people imposed by Rio City Hall.
