To further expand the legacy of one of the greatest Brazilian artists,
Emiliano Di Cavalcanti , by Kamy has been transforming some of the master's
main works into arazzos, transcending the field of visual arts into a collection of
noble tapestries for use only on walls. Launched in 2018, the collection made up of unique pieces has been gaining new horizons in recent years, such as the brand new arazzo “
Gente do Morro ”, presented by the brand for the first time at the
Salone del Mobile in Milan 2023 .
Woven entirely by hand in a production that can take
up to five months , the arazzos are carefully crafted with the richness of details, so as
not to stray from or distort the concept established by the original paintings.
About Di Cavalcanti
Born in Rio de Janeiro and raised in the suburb of São Cristóvão, the artist, illustrator and designer
Emiliano Di Cavalcanti (1897-1976) lived an intense life, in a tireless search for the
valorization of Brazilianness . Creator of the
Modern Art Week of 1922 , alongside illustrious modernist companions such as Mario de Andrade, Anita Malfatti, Heitor Villa-Lobos, among others, he pointed to the break with the academicist dogmas imposed by the elite of the time and guided a genuinely Brazilian
artistic identity . The artist's connection with national culture, however, went further:
the people and social issues gained prominence in his works , making him not only a great Brazilian artist, but perhaps the most Brazilian of artists by portraying, so well, scenes from the daily life and culture of a Brazil of samba, ginga and the periphery.
