One of the attractions of Milan Design Week 2024 is the Oltre lo sguardo exhibition with the collaborative collection by Oki Sato , from the Nendo studio, and Paola Lenti that unites Eastern philosophy with the sensibilities of Italian design . Captivating audiences with its homage to the subtle beauty of cherry blossom petals and sustainable ethos, the new outdoor furniture line celebrated the two designers’ shared reverence for nature by utilizing sustainable materials . Paola Lenti 's Italian furniture company has been dedicated to the mission of creating a better world by improving its production by reusing and giving another life to leftovers and discarded materials.

In homage to one of the most beautiful events in Japan, which is the cherry blossom , Sato played with colorful cutouts, referencing the organic shapes of the petals in the wind to create the Hana-arashi series of furniture and accessories.Drawing on the richness of Japanese language and culture, Paola Lenti introduced concepts into the brand such as Komorebi (capturing the ethereal glow cast by the sun as it filters through swaying leaves) and Mottainai (the principle of ‘waste not’, a call to utilize existing resources rather than waste them) .

“We were intrigued to explore collaborations with designers who present diverse aesthetics, distinct from the Campana Brothers , with whom we began the first chapter of the Mottainai project. This is how we engaged with Nendo . Oki Sato has skillfully breathed new life into Maris’s patchwork, harnessing its inherent structure and texture to inform the form of the collection. The resulting collection, Hana-arashi, exudes a restrained yet vibrantcharm , evocative of quintessential Japanese design,” says Paola Lenti. In addition to the launch of the new furniture, in the same building as the Paola Lenti Milano showroom, Oki Sato presents his solo exhibition called "nendo: whispers of nature" , in which the Japanese design studio explores the relationship between man and nature , a theme perfectly in tune with the entire collection and principles of the Italian brand.
