With the aim of stimulating and promoting design from various regions of the world,
ars fabricandi brings together pieces by renowned international designers in its collections of furniture, lighting and objects. The brand, which has a
showroom in Brussels, is in
Milan for the first time, with an exhibition at FuoriSalone, in the century-old Palazzo Litta, featuring pieces by several professionals, including Brazilians. Among them, Carol Gay, Ana Neute and Rafael Chvaicer, all from São Paulo, stand out.
Among the highlights of ars fabricandi, presented at
Milan Design Week , is the
Molecule Lamp , designed by Brazilian designer Ana Neute. The piece is a mutable system, where the piece is assembled by designers using a method that allows them to experiment with the shape directly on the object. Its basic elements are custom-made domes and rods. A nut is screwed onto the lock nut, joining the aluminum dome to the brass rod. The procedure allows the user to model the object, choose a position, an angle, assemble and disassemble it, which makes the object interactive and unique to the person who owns it.
Another new item presented to visitors at
MDW 2017 is the
Boléia Chair by Rafael Chvaicer. The piece is made of leather and wood. Its design seems to leave the seat and back suspended in the air. The leather, which embraces the wooden structure, has an organic design and contrasts with the straight lines. The main materials of the object are articulated by brass screws. These screws, as well as the brass bars, were custom-made for the chair.
Carol Gay, a young designer who has been gaining prominence on the international scene, brings
NoAr +3255 to ars fabricandi. To create the piece, Carol conducted research that is based on the valorization of common materials such as industrial rubber, thinking about sustainability and the interaction between recycling and design. The execution of the project is the result of the collaboration between ars fabricandi and the Sicilian architect and artisan Isabella Doro. Following Carol's research and ideas, Isabella takes abandoned truck tires and recycles the rubber to create exquisite creations. Elegant, comfortable, simply beautiful and sustainable: these words describe the essence of NoAr.
The Belgian brand is also presenting new developments in its partnership with Fabrica , an Italian research center integrated into the Benetton Group, which offers scholarships to young people from around the world to foster the emergence of new talent. The internationally renowned Fabrica campus is located in a 17th-century villa, restored and significantly expanded by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
