Israeli brand Iota debuted this year at Milan Design Week with a collection of bespoke crocheted poufs, stools and rugs. Founded in 2014, Iota works in local communities with high unemployment rates. The brand produces furniture and objects that combine traditional craft techniques, such as crochet, with contemporary design, creating objects with unusual textures. The business model aims to empower women, giving them economic independence.
Most of the profits from Iota 's product sales are invested in social and educational programs around the world. The company currently works only with women in Israel, but plans to expand the project to other countries.

The first collection consists of crocheted petal-style poufs and stools, cushions and a series of rugs with wide, colorful stripes and silk borders. Each of the products is named after the woman who made it. The design team, led by by creative director Tal Zur, works together with local artisans to change the perception of what can be achieved through craftsmanship.
