A new collection by
Lucas Recchia is on display in his studio. In Jardim Paulistano, the exhibition shares space with works created by big names in the art scene, such as Tunga, Abraham Palatnik and Paulo Roberto Leal, assisted by
KURA consultancy.
The partnership between Lucas Recchia and KURA, an art consultancy founded by Camila Yunes Guarita, aims to blur the boundaries between art and design. Recchia presents the
most complex collection of his career , with new techniques, typologies and materials, in dialogue with important names such as Abraham Palatnik, Tunga and Marília Kranz. The selection of works of art that make up the exhibition highlights the
strength and
plurality of contemporary Brazilian art.
“Art has a strong relationship with design. In this project, we seek to explore the intersections and intertwining between these two worlds. Lucas is a young designer who
seeks out a lot of references in art to create. There is a very unique and personal identity in his pieces,” says Camila Yunes Guarita. Known for his furniture made of fused glass, the designer expands the technical resources in the new collection and introduces the use of bronze. The title, “
Material Distortion ,” refers to the way he works with the materials and the phenomenological relationship that the pieces establish with the space. Lucas transforms the sheets of colored glass by cutting them, stacking them and firing them in the oven, which results in greater thickness and subtly rounded surfaces, as well as small bubbles.

The bronze, in turn, is cast in molds to form frames for the glass, and then undergoes oxidation processes that create patinas of distinct and always unique colors and textures. When light passes through them, the design of the pieces reverberates in the environment in the form of colored light contained by the shadows of the metal.
“My work starts with an initial idea and transforms throughout the process, with visual surprises generated by chemical reactions. The term 'experimental design' comes from this attitude of
constantly experimenting , susceptible to changes, until reaching the result”, reflects the designer.
In the paintings by Pietrinna Checcacci and Marilia Kranz, the sculptural and almost palpable volumes converse with the circular aesthetics of the design pieces, while the works by Tunga and Vivian Caccuri go beyond traditional materials and experiment with steel, cotton, iron, magnets and slate, for example. These are works that, in some way, adopt
subversive uses of matter , in resonance with the title of the exhibition. After a period of exhibition in Brazil, the pieces will be exhibited in Paris, a city that encompasses a busy circuit of authorial and collectible design in the world.
