After passing through the Augusta and Jardins regions,
Galeria Verniz is now located at a new address at Rua Lopes Chaves, 243, in Barra Funda, São Paulo:
the new space, previously occupied by a body shop, occupies an area of 730 m² and the ceiling height reaches 8 m. During the renovation, original and historical aspects of the space were rescued, typical of the houses of the old businesses in the neighborhood.
“We want everything to be
cleaner , but we left the entrance to the warehouse as it was and kept the original façade, which shows the signs of time. The walls and ceiling are peeling. We came here to take part in the cultural effervescence of the neighborhood and to engage with local production. We won’t just be a vintage store,” says
Fábio Matheiski , who created the gallery together with
Paulo Bega and
Luciano Tartalia .
The arrival of the gallery and a large part of its collection at the new design
hub in the capital of São Paulo also marks its tenth anniversary.
Another new development is the partnership with local carpenters, who are expected to exhibit their work during the opening phase. “We will have six professionals here from Barra Funda at the opening. We are taking up a larger space to also display our pieces that were in stock. From now on, we want Verniz to have a schedule of fine art exhibitions and design events,” says
Tartalia .
Among the objects highlighted in the new Verniz headquarters are the rosewood dining table and chairs by
Jean Gillon , the wooden sculpture by a craftsman from Minas Gerais, the wooden panel by the artist
Hugo Rodrigues , the moleca armchair in rosewood by
Sérgio Rodrigues , the rustic chair by an unknown artist and the caviúna desk from the old
Móveis Cimo factory.
