At this year’s Milan Design Week , as part of the Isola Design Festival , UK-based biotechnology company ecoLogicStudio is set to revolutionize the intersection of biophilic and digital design with its first PhotoSynthetica Collection . Led by architects Claudia Pasquero and Marco Poletto, the brand promises to showcase a trio of innovative products that aim to unite sustainability, technology and aesthetics. Check out the new products presented at MDW 2024 below! AIReactor: Connecting Nature and Technology
The centerpiece of the
AIReactor collection is a testament to
ecoLogicStudio ’s commitment to environmental innovation. This
biotech air purifier is designed to not only clean indoor air, but also foster a
symbiotic relationship with the environment around it. Visitors to the exhibit will witness
first-hand its ability to absorb
carbon dioxide and
pollutants while replenishing the air with oxygen, creating healthier environments for work, education and living. Constructed from a mix of
birch plywood and laboratory glass components, AIReactor houses living cultures of
photosynthetic microalgae within its three-foot-tall structure. Air is drawn into the reactor, where it is purified by the microalgae. The harvested algae can be collected multiple times a week, providing a sustainable source of biomass for other products in the collection.
Compostable Bench: Redefining Everyday Objects
Using
biomass harvested from the AIReactor , the bank serves as a tangible example of closed-loop manufacturing, where waste becomes a resource for new creations. This approach not only minimizes environmental impact but also enables localized production, promoting sustainable supply chains on a global scale.
Bio-Digital Ring: A Technological Jewel
In an innovative fusion of technology and nature, ecoLogicStudio introduces the
Bio-Digital Ring . This wearable art piece embodies the essence of sustainable luxury, featuring a
polylactic acid (PLA) base adorned with 30% algae biomass . Designed using artificial intelligence and cultivated through bio-digital processes, each ring captures the equivalent of one day’s air filtration from an AIReactor. Weighing in at a mere 20 grams, the Bio-Digital Ring represents a new frontier in
eco-friendly jewelry , offering a tangible connection to the environment while demonstrating the potential of innovative materials and production methods.
