[galeria-abril id='28281' type='slider'] Ten years ago, Laila Assef from Minas Gerais left Belo Horizonte and moved to Trancoso in search of a better quality of life. Addicted to the performing arts, Laila is an excellent painter and as soon as she settled in Bahia, she opened a charming store called Cheias. de Charme to sell her paintings and some objects. Every day she went to work, she came across empty plastic bottles that were left on the windows and counter of her studio, until it started to become an appeal. “There were so many bottles in the mangrove, in the river, in the sea, in the historic square itself when I realized that I could do something. I found the perfect opportunity to give back to the place what it was offering me”, she says. So she distributed collectors around the community and on the beaches so people could throw the bottles away. From there, a mobilization began and we managed to collect more than 10 thousand units in the first month. Laila began the experimental processes carried out manually with the help of the blower (a (a tool similar to a hair dryer) and first developed the flower. Later, he began producing lamps and decorative objects. Made exclusively from PET soda or water bottles, the pieces are hand-painted with glass paint and absolutely nothing is discarded. They can be exposed to the sun, however, they will become lighter and look beautiful when “faded”. “Usually I I reserve the faded ones for my collection”, says Laila. To clean the objects, the recommended method is just water.
The project was a success and she managed to bring more color and beauty to the “Quadrado”. The pieces made with PET bottles and the pieces made with Pataxós are found in her own store, in Trancoso and can also be made to order.
