Home to renowned artists and designers who have left their mark on the history of the arts,
Latin America is home to many
cultural treasures - and some of them can now be seen at the renowned
Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, which is holding an
unprecedented exhibition in which
Latin American design takes
center stage. The exhibition
Crafting Modernity: Design in Latin America, 1940–1980 marks the first time that an American museum has studied and presented
design monuments that marked different eras and regions on a large scale, and that are remembered to this day.
The exhibition focuses on
six countries : Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Venezuela, known for leading the development of
modern architecture and design in Latin America. Through the works, it is possible to better understand the
urban and political transformations in each country .
There are more than 100 pieces including furniture, graphic design, textiles, ceramics and photography. Among the Brazilian names,
Oscar Niemeyer , Roberto Burle Marx, Lina Bo Bardi and Antonio Bandeira stand out.
Other names that will be in the spotlight at
MoMA are Clara Porset (Mexican), Roberto Matta (Chilean), Alejandro Otero (Venezuelan), and many others.
The exhibition will be on display between
March 8 and September 22 , 2024.
