Following a series of conceptual designs resulting from the
collaboration between
Converse and London-based
A-COLD-WALL* , British designer, creative director and artist
Samuel Ross , in this next chapter of the collaboration, presents the reworking of the classic
Chuck 70 in two ways : he sought the help of influential names in their fields, selecting architect
Dong-Ping Wonge and designer
Nifemi Marcus-Bello . The two
experts evaluated the Chuck 70 from the perspective of the design construction that made it a symbol of its category. .
With the help of the two professionals, Ross distills his
futuristic aesthetic into these editions, which translate the DNA of his avant-garde menswear brand, incorporating the urban experience of the English working class. The proposals are, basically, an original and wearable version, while the The second resulted in a
completely reinterpreted and asymmetrical shoe based on the Chuck 70 configurations.
Nifemi is an industrial designer known for his ethnographic approach in his exploration of materials to pursue new forms and typologies with the aim of creating unique products.
Dong-Ping is a New York State licensed architect specializing in high-density public, cultural, and mixed-use buildings, and is the founding principal of Food New York.
It was precisely this
duality of methodologies that A-COLD-WALL* wanted to take advantage of in the recreation of the Chuck 70. Even though Ross is familiar with the model, due to previous work for Converse, this is the first time he has had to explore it. it to a new interpretation.
The Chuck 70, in this edition of the partnership, undergoes a contemporary reimagining expressed by translucent details. The classic silhouette, which has been added to Ross's artistic elements, is now designed to offer two options, a black and a white model, in addition to the reflective film on the side of the pairs that evokes the A-COLD-WALL* look.
In comparison, the other version, dubbed the Converse x A-COLD-WALL* Chuck 70 Geo Forma, showcases
how technology can drive design . The model explores the innate artistry of the Chuck 70 through a futuristic geometric lens added to the elements Ross's signature avant-garde style. His language is angular, particularly in the unique soles that define the new joint. A release date has not yet been set for the Converse x A-COLD-WALL* Chuck 70 Geo Forma, which is expected to debut at market later this year.
Following the creations of the Aeon Active CX and A-COLD-WALL* Sponge Crater that follow modernist concepts, the launch that reformulates the Chuck 70 aims
to gift lovers of classics with touches of Ross's conceptual vision and the expression of his signature . The shoe's graphic identity stands out as a constant detail in the partnership, as a way of cataloging the collaboration and the brand over time. The A-COLD-WALL* Chuck 70 is now available for purchase through Converse's e-commerce.
