Bottega Veneta has opened its latest
Milan store in the historic
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping arcade, a landmark location situated between the city’s iconic Duomo and the world-famous Teatro alla Scala. The two-storey
store , designed by creative director
Matthieu Blazy , is distinguished by three essential elements:
glass, Italian walnut and green marble . The combination takes up and evolves the aesthetics of the brand’s concept store on Avenue Montaigne in Paris (France), combining traditional Italian materials with a modernist sensibility and innovative craftsmanship.
“There are different spatial experiences in the store,” says Matthieu Blazy. “I wanted to express the idea of a domestic interior that references Italian modernist architecture contrasted with the aesthetics of a spaceship. And to capture the intimacy and imagination of dressing up,” he adds. The store will stock Bottega Veneta leather goods, shoes and women’s wear.
Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II was designed in 1861 by architect
Giuseppe Mengoni and built between 1865 and 1877. The impressive neoclassical structure consists of two glass-vaulted arcades that intersect in a central octagonal space with a glass dome. In addition to several luxury retailers, the Galleria is home to upscale restaurants, cafés and bars, including some of Milan’s oldest establishments.
