A group of experts and guests attended
CASACOR Rio Grande do Sul last Thursday, September 5th, to talk about Brazilian art and design in contemporary times. The chat was initiated by
Caroline Kreling , an architect who was part of the cast of the exhibition – which ended on September 8 – with the project
Sala Brasileira . For the conversation, Caroline joined the artist
Walmor Corrêa , the visual artist and creator of multidisciplinary content
Michell Lott , the architect and journalist who created the Design do Bom
Winnie Bastian platform and the editor of the Zero Hora newspaper
Renata Maynart .
“There is a movement of creative emancipation in the Southern Hemisphere,” comments Michell Lott, stating that Brazilian pieces have been gaining more space in the market. “Historically, we have always seen ourselves in second place in relation to Europe and North America, but it is interesting to observe that the rescue of origins is a new form of expression of what is produced here”. With a positive outlook on the market, Caroline Kreling stressed the importance of appreciating new products, but not to the detriment of old ones. “Good design has no time or limit. It is necessary to look to the past, but also to value the work contemporary, the art and materials that bring the essence of what is part of history and today opens paths for what is produced at the moment”.
