The DC 3 bench by Fahrer , a Brazilian furniture design studio, has just received the Platinum award in the Furniture Design category of the 2021/2022 A'Design Award and Competition . The award is one of the largest and most comprehensive in design worldwide. Inspired by the Douglas DC3, a twin-engine aircraft that revolutionized passenger transport in the 1950s and 1960s, the DC3 seat reproduces the structural ribs of the aircraft's wings.

The result of Fahrer designers' passion for research into the development of new techniques, the piece has organic curves and its structure is transformed into unique details used to enhance aesthetics. Using naval multi-laminated plywood as raw material, the DC3 bench has sculptural curves created through a pioneering and technological construction process.

Made from turned sheets , with a natural wood finish, overlapped and joined together with 100% waterproof glue, marine multi-laminated plywood has great structural strength and versatility, which allows the creation of bold shapes in furniture pieces. The DC 3 bench has a sculptural design and finds in the visible edges a way to highlight and further enhance the raw material used.
