Converse CONS , the
skateboarding division of Converse, has just released the first model signed by
Alexis Sablone , the
AS-1 PRO . This is the first
pro model by a woman for the brand in its history and, although Alexi is a skateboarder, her life story goes far beyond that. With a
Master's degree in Architecture from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Alexis is also a designer, illustrator, architect and multi-artist, as well as a skateboarder. In architecture, she is responsible, for example, for the concept and design of a
skateable structure in Malmö, Sweden , for the
Lady in the Square event, held in 2018 or the
Garden of Skateable Fruits , in New Jersey, in 2023. She was also the oldest athlete to compete in
street skateboarding at the last
Tokyo Olympics , finishing fourth.
Another point that connects architecture and art in her life was the launch of the AS-1 PRO, which took place on April 25, 2023, at the
Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York . Alexis was the first person to skate inside the museum and also the first to launch a skateboard product inside it. For her, “in a way, it’s what an architect should do, transform the way people move through a space and that’s exactly what skateboarding does, it changes how you see around you and, suddenly, there’s an imaginary potential that didn’t exist before,” she says. Alex and
filmmaker Jeremy Elkin – director of “
All The Streets Are Silent ,” a documentary about hip-hop culture and the growth of the New York skateboarding scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s – also produced a film that tells a bit of his story as a skateboarder and about his relationship with architecture, until culminating in the launch at the Guggenheim.
This is Converse’s first performance skate shoe to feature a
cupsole , designed exclusively for
boardfeel and comfort on and off the board. Crafted with a newly engineered core dubbed the “Grasshopper” embedded in the outsole, it provides increased impact cushioning and an optimized boardfeel – the visible herringbone outsole has also been refined to Alexis’s specifications to help optimize grip on the grip tape.
The silhouette features a CX foam footbed for impact cushioning and with height-adjustable rubber sides, the AS-1 PRO can handle the demands of all types of skaters. For Converse, Alexis Sablone has already signed
colorways of the One Star Pro, Jack Purcell and Louie Lopez Pro models, and has also participated in campaigns such as PRIDE, in 2019 and 2021. The AS-1 PRO will be available in Brazil from May 10th, on
converse.com.br and in the best
skateshops .
